Rapazes vamos à rua!

Hoje pela primeira vez fui,  na hora do costume e sozinha, à rua com os meus cães!! o Miles saltitou o caminho todo! O Miles foi o cão que mais sentiu a alteração de rotina! de um dia p o outro deixou de treinar e treinar e correr e correr para estar em boa forma física. A agravar: o Torrão tem o passe de Setter - um senta só acontece de vez em quando mesmo que se lho repita  ai umas100 vezes. O james tem o passe de sénior - 14 anos, meio surdo! O Miles não tem  passe nenhum e está a jeito para:  tu sentas! tu ficas! tu esperas! etc, etc ! Hoje o Miles apanhou e entregou- me todas as pinhas do caminho e tão contente!

 Estou rota mas valeu a pena!
Today for the first time i whent for a walk with the boys! we were longing for this! Miles has been affect by this rotine change and he has not been very happy since i got my broken foot! today he was happy jumping around me  pickinh up every pine tree on our way and trying to plau with me! im tired but more happy!

As 12 piores marcas de alimento para cães! E, um pouco mais...

O denominado mercado das - Pet Food é um mercado em ascensão e sem queda... e há vários anos!Terá apostado na qualidade diríamos... humm  mas em que qualidade apostou!? 

A qualidade de uma "nova" classe emergente -  a dos donos que consideram os animais de estimação como membros da família e dispostos à acção: " vão- se os anéis ficam os dedos"  para quando estes precisam. São eles os verdadeiros target  deste mercado. Em média, gastam 45 a 60 euros, por 15 kilos, ou 13,5k, de alimento. Já  embalado,  já prensado, já com as vitaminas todas, já com um prazo de validade a rondar o impossível para qualquer conceito de natural, ou fresco! E, já com uma descrição de conteúdo tão técnica e tão minúscula que o comum dos mortais  prefere deixar isso para quem entenda do assunto!  A publicidade, essa usa uma linguagem fácil e assertiva feita para descansar a escolha: Sensitive skin, para labradores, para raças gigantes... e por aí... 

As multinacionais  perceberam  cedo as vantagens deste mercado e dividiram -no em segmentos significativos  - do supermercado á "petshop" por ordem gradativa da suposta qualidade: a Néstlé produz a Purina, a Procter & Gamble a iams e a eukanuba, a Colgate-Palmolive Company a Hills Science Diet, a Mars a Pedigree, para nomear apenas algumas.

Com a crise a apertar apertou também o cerco da procura de "good value for money". O segmento mais alto deste mercado viu-se obrigado a responder a uma nova tendência. 

A procura de conteúdos de maior qualidade, sobretudo por via da critica da incorporação e excesso do milho. Gerou-se um novo boom e novos rótulos a anunciar conteúdos mais naturais, ou próprios para consumo humano, ou grain free, etc. Esta tendência, positiva, trouxe com ela um maior debate e informação sobre os benefícios de alimentação não natural prolongada. Um maior conhecimento sobre este tipo de alimento. e uma abertura a novas propostas de alimentação canina como por exemplo o BARF, ou a alimentação natural - calculada em função de cada cão - e sobretudo destinada a melhoria da condição física de muitos cães, sobretudo os seniores!
Enfim... uma lança em África no panorama global mas que muitos são os cães que já agradecem!!!

During the last decades the pet food industry owned millions by targeting owners who developed a new sense towards theirs pets - pets are family!
A normal bag of dog food from the highest segment is very expensive. But somehow  along the way some voices have been heard questioning the quality of whats inside that adorable fluflfy bag we take home. More inquisitive owners  started to ask around demanding  improvements on the dogs food quality, specially towards the massive utilization of corn as a main ingridient. Therefore much more high quality food was released. This time lables promised - natural dog food, holistic dog food, by nature, no grain, grain free, etc.
It as been a long way to reach this point! Along with it owners are now much more informed and new  food alternatives have come to the  dogs! BARF, cooking at home veterinary customized diets are just a few!

Expressões faciais dos cães revelam estado emotivo!

Foi esta a descoberta de um estudo recente! As expressões faciais dos cães revelam o seu estado emotivo e podem ser importantes na compreensão da comunicação com o dono! É muito interessante a evolução que os estudos sobre os cães apresentam! Passámos de uma época de condenação da identificação de emoções em animais e em que os donos mais sensíveis a estes assuntos - as expressões da emoção  nos seus animais nomeadamente nos cães -eram vistos como pessoas que antropomorfizavam, e ás vezes até como desequilibradas, para a aceitação plena  de que antropomorfizar pode trazer benefícios ao conhecimento - claro desde que esteja sob a alçada do olhar ciêntifico!

Esforço!

Estar desde o final de Julho em casa com um pé partido tem implicado uma enorme alteração da rotina para os meus cães! No início, o Torrão mostrou dificuldade em, estando eu em casa, sair de casa com outra pessoa. Agora, e  passadas 3 semanas chegam da rua correm direitos ao sofá - chegámos!
Muitos tem sido os amigos que oferecem ajuda para os ir passeando! Obrigado.
 Miles  - sente a alteração da rotina e a ausência de treino. Tem andado mais nervoso. Só hoje, finalmente, o vi  brincar (com o torrão)!
James - parece que renasceu das cinzas. Ter-me em casa o dia todo avivou -o imenso!!
Torrão - excepcional como um cão tão energético se adaptou a passar inúmeras horas em casa, a dar passeios bem mais curtos e sempre a trela!  E, com o seu bom humor intacto!
No inicio, foi um caos até se habituarem ao barulho horrível das muletas!  Faziam Freeze e não saiam da frente. A piorar aquilo não  se estaciona com facilidade e  são  inúmeras as vezes que caem  estrondosa e espavorida mente !  O torrão, esse foge a 7 pés! !
A minha sanidade mental  enfraqueceu sem a liberdade que experimento nos nossos passeios!

 Hoje deitei - me no chão a fazer exercícios de mobilidade à perna e o Miles  veio a deitar-se a meu lado!
Soube -me pela vida! 5m a sonhar com a vida normal -  deitados na relva, debaixo da enorme Tília e  a espreitar  o céu  por entre os ramos altos!

Esta é a Tília do parque de quem temos saudades!

 it will soon be a month since i broke my left foot! a considerable change in our rotine specially  to our dog walks! Dogs need to stay inside the house for too many hours wating for the  pet walker or for some friends who have been helping us throughout the days!
 Miles is being a bit upset and less joyfull! Only yesterday i was able to see him playing! James is absolutly loving  to have me in the house all day it almost seems that years  flown away from him! Torrão is such a surprise! A full spirit dog being able to set and be still for so many hours! his good mood  definetly improve  our days! Yesterday Miles came to lay by my side when i was exercising my left leg!  i guess we both miss laying in the garden under a special tree!

Novo Estudo - Cães Não distinguem brinquedos pela forma!

Um estudo recente de uma Universidade inglesa abordou a forma como os cães relacionam a palavra e o objecto concluindo que existem diferenças significativas, nomeadamente no que refere o tamanho e a textura e entre a abordagem dos cães e a das crianças! Os cães parecem os cães parecem generalizar  e ligar um nome a um objecto tendo por base o tamanho e a textura.

The human visual system is tuned to detect object shape for the purpose of object recognition. In our experiments we excluded Gable using scent cues. It seems that his visual system and sensory cues linked to his mouth region are focused not on shape, but on size and texture. Only future experiments will reveal what role scent plays for the dog in generalising words. It is only by comparing other species with humans that we can find out more about the neural and genetic foundations of word reference in language."

Fetch! First Clear Evidence That Dogs Do Not Naturally Distinguish Objects by Shape

 Researchers have provided the first empirical evidence that the way in which dogs relate words to objects is fundamentally different to humans.

Many pet owners marvel at their dog's ability to fetch different objects such as toys on instruction, perceiving this as evidence that the dog 'understands' these words in a similar way to us.

Psychologists and animal behaviour specialists from the University of Lincoln in the UK have shown through a series of unique behavioural experiments that the mental lexicon of domestic dogs is constructed in a substantially different manner to our own.

The findings, published in the peer-reviewed online journal PLOS ONE, may help to advance understanding of the foundations of language in humans and the critical differences with other species.

From the onset of word learning, young children generalise names to new objects on the basis of shape, and continue to do so as adults -- a tendency known as 'shape bias'. This is crucial to language development because it enables children to assign new objects to pre-established classes -- for example, to recognise that a tennis ball and a football both belong to the category 'ball'.

The Lincoln researchers found that when dogs are introduced to new words to refer to new objects, they first generalise based on object size, then on object texture. Unlike humans, they do not appear to naturally discriminate based on shape.

The study was conducted by Dr Emile van der Zee from the University of Lincoln's School of Psychology with Helen Zulch and Professor Daniel Mills from the University's School of Life Sciences.

Dr van der Zee said: "A number of recent studies have suggested that the domestic dog's word comprehension is human-like. Arguments have been made to refute this claim but until now there has been no clear empirical evidence to resolve the debate. Our findings bring a fundamental new insight into this discussion and add to our understanding of the cognitive equipment necessary for true human word learning."

Dr van der Zee and his colleagues worked with a five-year-old border collie called Gable who had shown remarkable abilities to learn new object words.

They devised four different challenges for Gable to determine the extent and nature of his word comprehension.

On a number of occasions a selection of ten different objects known to Gable were placed in an enclosure out of sight of Gable and the researchers, and he was then given a verbal instruction to fetch a particular object from the ten.

Initial tests confirmed that Gable could easily distinguish between toys he knew well.

It was when the researchers introduced new words and novel objects of varying shape, size and texture that Gable began to reveal the absence of shape bias in his choices.

He appeared to make distinctions based first on object size, then, when he had longer to become familiar with the new objects, on the basis of texture. Object shape appeared to have no influence.

The researchers concluded that the mental lexicon -- the long-term mental store containing sound-to-meaning mappings -- appears to be fundamentally different in dogs and humans, both in terms of how it is built (word knowledge development) and in how it operates (word reference quality).

Uma prova dificil  quer pela conjugação de exercícios. nos conseguimos o objectivo desta prova nao ter zeros  e baixar o nível de ansiedade e excitação e procurar um sentido de Team work! correu -nos muito bem! e obtivémos 304,75 95,23% Excelente

In Defense of Dogs - Jonh Bradshaw

John Bradshaw  - in Defense of dogs! um livro muito interessante com uma crítica, até positiva, ao famoso Cesar! vale a pena espreitar!

...Bradshaw says: "I am reluctant to demonise Millan, he has come under a lot of pressure." On a recent tour of the UK, Millan was told his methods were close to breaching Defra guidelines (which forbid harsh training). "He is a smart guy and sees which way the wind is blowing. He is now embracing reward-based methods. All that stuff he spouted about wolves was not based on science." Besides, as Bradshaw observes, there are more "hardcore" trainers out there – such as the massively influential Monks of New Skete in the United States who "sound as if they ought to be the gentlest people in the world" but base their bogus, punitive methods on wolf biology: they urge owners to shake their dogs "because this is what wolf mothers do to keep their cubs in line".

Bradshaw favours humane, reward-based training. The latest science shows that dogs learn to "please their owners". It is wonderful to hear this: he makes one feel fantastically upbeat about being a dog owner (and it is a relief to drop all thoughts of a primitive power struggle)....
